Outdoor Kitchen Insect Control
In certain parts depending on how severe the insect situation is ,you may have to take insect control measures. . The buzzing of an anopheles mosquito in your ear or a wriggling moth falling on your aromatic steak can be a bit annoying !
Temporary measures such as aerosol insect repellants should be avoided as particles of chemicals attach themselves to grill areas and other cooking apparatus. If you have a very severe insect problem call a insect control service and get a spray done once in while but make sure your outdoor kitchen is covered by a protective sheet during the chemical spray.
Other measures you could consider are:
- Bug zappers: They have a light in the center of the unit to attract bugs and then "zap" them with a strong current. Try to go for a good quality bug zapper even if it costs more. Improperly designed zappers sometimes cause their bodies to virtually explode due to excessive power in some instances, becoming an aerosol which may settle onto nearby food or be inhaled by humans.
- Citronella candles: They produce odors that keep most insects away. The odor can be quite strong, so might have to light them well in advance of the meal gathering.
- Some companies sell ultrasonic insect control devices. However the effectiveness of these machines has not been proved. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) charged several companies selling these devices with false advertising and required them to make refunds to customers.
