Outdoor Sinks

Outdoor Kitchen Sinks

Sinks are very convenient outside and are invaluable to the outdoor cook. They can be used for small cleaning work or can used to wash utensils after a meal. Most sinks start around $100  and go up to $400 .

The sinks should be installed in an ergonomically convenient place. Size of the sink depends on personal preference and how much counter space you have available. Big sinks for outdoor use may be a bit inefficient in design. A one bowl sink should be adequate.

Since the sinks would be installed outside, stainless steel is the most preferable material as it is resistant to corrosion. One disadvantage of stainless steel is that they tend to be noisier than most other sink materials. Good quality sinks work around this disadvantage  by applying a heavy coating of vibration damping material to the underside.  Other commonly used sink materials are Porcelain over cast iron, solid ceramic and plastic.

Outdoor sinks draw water from either the home’s water supply or a hose. For purposes other than washing the dishes you need only a cold water supply line. For supply of both hot and cold water either run both cold and hot water lines from the inside the house or run a cold-water line only and install an on-demand water heater near the sink.An additional requirement in very cold weather areas is to install a shut off valve inside the house   so you can drain the line for winter.
